Casting Notes

Mon, 21 Apr 2008 18:59:25 PDT
My friend Andi Arndt emails with news of a new site you might want to check out. It’s called Casting Notes and is still in beta. A quick look around suggests it’s weighted to the on-camera and stage sides of the acting equations. No big surprise there, because there are so many more actors in those categories. But, there’s room for voice actors to feel at home, too. Bookmark to: Hide Sites

Baha'i Apologetics Anyone?

Mon, 21 Apr 2008 16:29:33 PDT
Apologetics is a branch of systematic theology, although some experience it’s thrust in religious studies or philosophy of religion courses. Some encounter it on the internet for the first time in a more populist and usually much less academic form. As I see it, apologetics is primarily concerned with the protection of a position, the refutation of that position's assailants and, in the larger sense, the exploration of that position in the context of prevailing philosophies and standards in a se

Official: BBC Making People Nauseous.....

Mon, 21 Apr 2008 18:58:27 PDT
I've been suffering from this for as long as I can remember.... It cost £550,000 and was supposed to usher in a new era for the BBC. But the much-heralded redesign of the corporation's flagship news bulletins got off to a shaky start after viewers complained of dizziness and nausea. Others criticised the makeover, which features a swirling red globe in the title sequences, as "a colossal waste" of licence-fee payers' money. Rest here>>> ZIP

Public: Don't Mess With My Flight Plans

Sun, 13 Aug 2006 11:58:25 PDT
"Pretty soon we'll have to fly naked!" The mass media rapidly embraced the UK terror storyline fed to them. The BBC, CNN, CBC Newsworld and other all-news broadcasters covered scarcely anything but the narrowly averted catastrophe throughout the day. Funny thing, but the general public wasn't buying it. The reaction was surprisingly cynical...

Why use WPF if it is not RAD yet?

Mon, 21 Apr 2008 17:49:20 PDT
I have been heavily involved with WPF for years now. When I first started out with “Avalon” it was hardly a blip on the .NET radar. After just a couple of years the crickets have been replaced by a rock concert, and the intensity just keeps growing. For a WPF geek, such as me, this is great news! My numerous encounters with people using WPF have lead to me to conclude that the platform is finally gaining traction in the .NET universe. WPF has been picking up momentum for a while in the fina

Mon, 21 Apr 2008 16:53:59 PDT
Challenging real estate markets can be found across the U.S. as home prices decline, the volume of sales fall and foreclosures rise. But in some places the biggest challenge has been convincing would-be buyers and sellers that local conditions don’t resemble the national trends.

Adidas and 180 LA have taken the "huge" aspect of the sneaker-culture trend quite literally with the web film "The Left-Right Project," the first film in a series dubbed "Celebrate Originality" that will be rolling out this spring and summer. Get Those Votes In For Best Webinar Days

Mon, 21 Apr 2008 16:26:44 PDT
Participation in my survey on best webinar times is still lower than I would like. We need lots of data to make a good generalization about public preferences. But I'll tell you this... Participation from the US Eastern time zone is more than double the participation from the Pacific time zone. What's the matter with you in California, Oregon, Washington, etc? Too laid back to take part? It only takes two minutes or less to complete the short radio-button form. It doesn't even ask for your ema

A Viewer Speaks

Wed, 02 Apr 2008 08:05:29 PDT
WE GET A good group of commenters here in Sticksville. Lately, we've been hearing quite a bit from a young woman from the Prairies, who has an openminded attitude toward Canadian shows, and an engaged and passionate way of defending them. On the subject of all the changes going on at the CBC, I think she's expressed the necessary corrective point of view better than Richard Stursberg, Kirstine Leyfield, or anybody else at the public broadcaster has managed to do. So I'm bumping her comment here

It's Sunday Morning in My House

Sun, 20 Apr 2008 08:27:10 PDT
It's Sunday morning in America, which in my house means the Sunday morning news talk shows are on the TV. Two and one-half hours of political silliness. Why bother? Because every Sunday patience is rewarded with a bit of wisdom. This morning, that came in the form of a single word uttered by Sen. John McCain. The word was action.

Democracy is still a GOOD thing, right?

Sun, 20 Apr 2008 11:16:04 PDT
more people are engaged and paying attention to the issues in this election that ever before - that's good for the American people. No. 2, by the time we get a nominee, and start campaigning against McCain, our candidate's dirty laundry will be old news, while McCain's issues will sound like revelations. So, this isn't where the problem comes in.

Oil up! Freak out! Dow up? Shut up!

Fri, 18 Apr 2008 12:50:34 PDT
Oil up! Freak out! Dow up? Shut up! The state-run media in Canada (and the citizen-owned media who do their best to compete with them) all lament, daily (with intra-day lament updates, all day long), the price of a barrel of oil, and the resulting price of gas. (Of course they don’t have the foggiest clue what they’re talking about, but they pretend they do.) Even as I was writing this, the state-owned CBC did a story about the latest rise in gas prices. Apparently it’s getting h

Patrick looks forward to winning again in a couple years

Mon, 21 Apr 2008 07:29:28 PDT
TOKYO, JAPAN — Danica Patrick waited a long time to win her first IndyCar Series race. It took her three years and fifty races to score her first victory, which came Sunday in Tokyo at the Japan Indy 300. But she promises that this win will not be her only one. “I certainly look forward to winning again in 2011,” said the 26-year-old IndyCar heartthrob. “It’s been a long time coming, but I think with another fifty races of experience under my belt, I should be ready to take home another trophy
